Parent - Child Christmas Prep with Book Nook

Oct 19,2025 | Rolife Team

The Christmas season is a wonderful time of year, especially for families. What is better than seeing that look on your child’s face on Christmas morning when he or she sees the presents under the tree? However, the lead-up to Christmas is just as fantastic with carolers singing and lights brightening up houses and streets.

In this article, we are going to look at Christmas DIY ideas that you can enjoy as a parent with your child or children. Where better to start than with Rolife book nooks? They have two dedicated to Christmas, and your children will love them. There is nothing more fun than a family DIY day.

Getting Ready for a Festive Family DIY Day

1. Get Suitably Dressed

Many shops sell Christmas clothes in the lead up to Christmas, so get into the spirit of the season, with everybody wearing Christmas jumpers and hats. If you want to be really relaxed and comfortable, get matching Christmas pajamas. Does it really matter that it’s daytime as long as you’re having fun?

2. Prepare Snacks and Drinks

Rolife book nooks take a few hours to assemble, so what you don’t want are hungry and thirsty children unable to concentrate.

When it comes to drinks, start with steaming mugs of hot chocolate filled with marshmallows and a candy cane. Have non-alcoholic eggnog and apple cider on hand for when you get thirsty during the assembly process.

Kids always get hungry, so make sure that you have prepared lots of snacks. Let them help you  make the food beforehand so that they become absorbed in the Christmas spirit.

Chips and healthy dips like hummus always go down well. To be even more health-conscious, add some sticks of celery, carrots, and peppers to dip. Turn the classic celery and peanut butter combo into a reindeer, using pretzels as the ears and fresh cranberries for the eyes, nose, and mouth.

When it comes to sweet treats, decorated Christmas cookies and cupcakes always go down well. Let the kids do the decorating. They can use icing to paint Christmas figures like Santa Claus/ For a healthy fruit snack, thread bananas, strawberries, grapes, and mini marshmallows onto a stick to create Santa hats.

Rolife Book Nooks

There are two Christmas-themed Rolife book nooks, Christmas Indoor Scene and Christmas Street.  They complement each other, so why not make both? They make beautiful  Christmas decorations.

The Christmas indoor scene is a cozy living room, decked in Christmas decorations and twinkling lights. Stockings hang by the lit fireplace, waiting for Santa to fill them with gifts. Outside, there is snow on the ground, and a jolly snowman sits at the entrance.

The Christmas Street will make you want to go out Christmas shopping. There is a cobblestone alley with snow-covered trees and gaily decorated shops. The sparkling lights are welcoming, as are the cheerful decorations lining the street.

Making the Rolife Christmas Book Nooks: A Step By Step Family Activity

1. Read the Instructions

Every Rolife book nook kit comes with full instructions. It is a good idea to read them thoroughly before you start making the book nook. They are clear, and it is straightforward to assemble the book nooks.

2. Collect Together the Additional Things You Need to Make the Book Nook

You will need tweezers to help you place some of the tiny parts. You may need glue, so purchase some craft glue. If you want to change the colors of the book nook, get some acrylic paints and tiny paintbrushes. You will also need 2 AAA batteries for the lights on each book nook.

3. Test the Lights

It is a good idea to test the lights before you start assembling the book nook. If you don’t and you find that they don’t work, you will have to disassemble your hard work.

You are then ready to start assembling the book nook with your children. Assign them different jobs to do so that nobody feels left out. If you are using glue and you have very young children, it is best that you, as a parent, use it. Teenagers should be okay.

Personalizing the Book Nooks

For even more family DIY fun, you can make your book nooks personal to you and your children.

1. Painting

You can repaint the book nook in colors that you like. Choose red and green for a traditional look, pastel colors for a modern vibe, and white and ice blue for a snowy winter fantasyland.

2. Make Your Own Snow

Although you can paint the trees and roofs white, there are more fun ways to create snow with your kids. You can mix a can of shaving foam and baking soda together. Knead them together until hard. This mixture can also be used to make snowmen.

You can also buy instant snow spray for a quick result, as well as icicle sticks, which look very pretty.

3. Make Snowmen

Apart from using shaving foam and baking soda to make snowmen, you can use foam balls of different sizes. Stick them together, use toothpicks for the arms, and black and orange polymer clay for the eyes, nose, and mouth.

4. Micro Crochet Figures and Accessories

You can micro crochet figures, such as Santa Claus, snowmen, and children, as well as accessories. Make brightly packaged gifts, garlands, wreaths, blankets, and rugs to add to the scenes.

Micro crocheting is a great medium for figures and accessories. If your children don’t know how to crochet, this is the ideal time to teach them another craft.

Micro crocheting is a little more difficult than ordinary crocheting because it is on a smaller scale. Use a hook between 1.4 mm and 1 mm and sewing thread instead of yarn. Young children may find it hard, but older children should be fine.

How to Display Your Rolife Book Nook

1. Between Books

The most obvious way to display your book nooks is between books. Your child may like to have them in their room.

2. Above the Fireplace

If you have a fireplace, they will look good on the shelf above it. Maybe put them at each end and place your Christmas cards between them.

3. On the Coffee Table

Put a red tablecloth on the table and let your children decorate with Santas, reindeer, and snowmen. You can buy these, but it will be more fun to crochet them or make them from cardboard, foam balls, or even plasticine.

4. Make a Miniature Village

Rolife also makes Christmas miniature houses, so why not make these as well?

If you have a bigger table, you can display them all together like a little village. Your children will love to enjoy more family DIY projects.  Again, you can decorate the table with figures and accessories.

Final Thoughts

To make Rolife book nooks with your children is a great way for the family to reconnect with each other, and when better to do this than at Christmas? Little kids will love doing something so grown-up, while older kids will want to spend time with their parents for a change. Have you made Christmas book nooks with your children? If so, let us know how you got on.
